ACT Today! (Autism Care and Treatment Today!), a national non-profit organization whose mission is to provide care and treatment to children with autism announces multi-award winning singer/songwriter Brian McKnight will be the Special Musical Performer at the 7th Annual Denim and Diamonds for Autism. The event will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at the Calamigos Ranch in Malibu, California and will honor actor Joe Mantegna (“Criminal Minds"), KCBS 2 and KCAL 9’s President and General Manager Steve Mauldin, and community activist Kathleen Sternbach. Over 500 guests are expected to attend the red carpet fundraiser, including corporate leaders, celebrities, dignitaries and other autism supporters.
"Brian McKnight is the consummate entertainer, a musician and singer with legendary talent. He matches that talent with a huge heart, and we are blessed that Brian will be treating us to a special performance on a magical night that will provide treatment and care to children with autism across America,” says ACT Today! Executive Director Nancy Alspaugh-Jackson.
McKnight has earned himself a spot in contemporary music history. He has released 14 albums to date, 7 of them have gone platinum, several have gone 2 and 3x platinum, and has sold over 20 million albums worldwide. He is the recipient of numerous awards including Soul Train Awards and Image Awards, as well as 16 Grammy Award nominations. Additional nominations include MTV Video Music Awards, BET Awards and American Music Awards. With seemingly endless talent; Brian has successfully crossed every medium in entertainment from producing some of today’s hottest acts, to a red carpet host for Extra!, to scoring movies for Tyler Perry, and garnering outstanding reviews in “Chicago” on Broadway. Brian has hosted both his own syndicated radio and TV shows simultaneously. Brian is that uniquely talented individual who can multi-task effortlessly and has a never ending supply of creativity.
The 7th Annual Denim & Diamonds for Autism will feature red carpet arrivals, a cocktail reception (and VIP recepton), silent and live auctions, and a seated dinner program.
In addition to McKnight’s performance, the band Boss in the USA will perform a special tribute to Bruce Springsteen.
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 1 in 88 children in America is diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD), making ASD more prevalent than juvenile diabetes, childhood cancer and pediatric AIDS combined.
Proceeds from the 7th Annual Denim & Diamonds for Autism fundraiser will make it possible for ACT Today! to continuing providing families access to therapy, medical care, assistance dogs, social skills programs, assistive technology, special needs camp, tuition for special needs school, and basic safety equipment (e.g. helmets and fencing).
